One of the things I’m loving about reading Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is how he takes the time to bring  Reader through whole days. While he could easily say “…and then the eight lovers spent a lovely day together,” instead he takes pages and pages and chapters and chapters to let us wander through their lovely day together with them.

Here we linger at dinner:
