I love all the characters in Les Miserables, but I want to think Monseigneur Bienvenu is the hero. Even so, I can’t justify this feeling. Yes, it is true, so much that happened came out of his kindness…but also out of the kindness of each individual, some who did just one kind thing, some, who were so broken they couldn’t even do a kind thing but were vessels for the love of others.
Not only could Monseigneur Bienvenu read, he could cultivate the ideas he found in his reading.
I was having trouble getting this book read because the book was so big it was hard to take with me. Now I’ve downloaded a Gutenberg Project version with somewhat antiquated language. I like it better. I find the older words more expressive. All this to apologize for going back and forth between source quotes.
